Setsuro Ebashi

Setsuro Ebashi ForMemRS (江橋 節郎 Ebashi Setsurō?, 31 August 1922 Tokyo – 17 July 2006) was a Japanese biophysicist. He was Professor Emeritus of National Institute for Physiological Sciences. He was awarded the 1972 Imperial Prize of the Japan Academy, the 1999 International Prize for Biology,[1] the Order of the Sacred Treasure, and an Order of Culture.

Life

He graduated from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Tokyo with an MD in 1944, and Doctor of Medical Sciences (PhD) in 1954. He was Guest Investigator of the Rockefeller Institute from January to December 1959, where he studied with Fritz Lipmann. He was Chair of Pharmacology at the University of Tokyo, School of Medicine, from May 1959 until March 1983. He was Chair of Biophysics at the University of Tokyo School of Sciences, from May 1971 to March 1983. [2]
